Abstract

Urinary schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease caused by trematodes of the genus Schistosoma spp. The infection is acquired through contact with wastewater colonized by cercariae. After an acute phase consisting of a febrile syndrome accompanied by urinary symptoms, the infection becomes chronic, which can lead to serious complications. We present the case of a traveller who consulted for fever, haematuria, and dysuria after a trip to Thailand. Fresh urine analysis revealed the presence of Schistosoma spp. eggs. The condition resolved after the administration of two doses of oral praziquantel.
