Abstract

Emphysematous gastritis is a rare and potentially fatal condition that requires prompt diagnosis and immediate treatment. It is associated with immunosuppression, chronic diseases, prolonged steroid use, or alcoholism. We present the case of a 62-year-old male in whom Streptococcus pneumoniae was isolated from peripheral and central blood cultures, as well as bronchoalveolar lavage, a highly uncommon finding in this context. Additionally, pyocolecyst was identified as a complication, with no prior reports in the literature. This case highlights the need for clinical suspicion in vulnerable patients and the importance of identifying the causative agent to guide targeted and timely therapy.
