Abstract

TINU syndrome is a very rare disease. It involves acute interstitial nephritis followed, months later, by acute unilateral or bilateral anterior uveitis. It is preceded by a flu-like syndrome. Its cause is unknown; maybe an idiopathic immune-mediated disease, precipitated by drugs or infections. It is underdiagnosed, as treatment for nephritis masks the uveitis. A 55-year-old, with obesity and diabetes, who used NSAIDs, presented to the Emergency department with hypoglycemia and acute renal failure. One month later, she was diagnosed with right uveitis, and the following month, she developed left uveitis. The concomitant presence of renal failure and bilateral anterior uveitis led to a diagnosis of TINU syndrome. With high-dose steroid treatment, her ocular symptoms resolved, and her renal function recovered after 9 months.
