Abstract

Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a large-vessel vasculitis primarily affecting the aorta and its branches, leading to stenosis. It predominantly occurs in young women and may be misdiagnosed due to its nonspecific clinical presentation. We report the case of a 27-year-old woman with a seven-year history of migraines who presented to the emergency department with sudden neurological deterioration. An ischemic cerebrovascular event secondary to right internal carotid artery stenosis was identified, and the diagnosis was confirmed by histopathology. This case emphasizes the importance of timely diagnosis, as initial symptoms may be easily mistaken for migraine, potentially delaying treatment and increasing the risk of serious complications.
