Abstract

Thymomas are rare epithelial tumors of the thymus with a highly variable clinical presentation, ranging from asymptomatic cases to symptoms due to local compression or paraneoplastic syndromes. Their diagnosis can be
challenging, as they may mimic other mediastinal entities, particularly cystic lesions such as hydatid, bronchogenic,
or pericardial cysts. We present the case of a young man with clinical features consistent with acute pericarditis,
in whom imaging studies initially suggested a cystic lesion. Surgical resection and histopathological analysis
ultimately confirmed an early-stage thymoma. This case highlights the importance of differential diagnosis and
the need for histological confirmation.
